Who is a Candidate for All-On-4?

woman smiling. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept is an innovative way to replace missing teeth.

JP Dental & Implant Center, recommend All-On-4 Treatment Concept as an alternative for dentures and dental bridges as it provides several benefits over them.

Let us find out how the All-On-4 Treatment Concept works and who is eligible to get it.

What is All-On-4 Treatment Concept?

The All-On-4 Treatment Concept involves the use of only four dental implants to support a full overdenture on your upper and lower arch. The back implants are longer than the front implants and are tilted at an angle between 30 and 45 degrees. This lets them maximize the use of the denser bone at the back of the jaw and provides them with added stability.

The All-On-4 Treatment Concept is less invasive than getting a dental implant to replace individual missing teeth in your jaw. It is a highly effective way to restore the function of your mouth and helps you regain your smile.

Who is a Good Candidate for All-On-4 Treatment Concept?

Fortunately, most people who are responsible, have a fully-matured jaw, and have generally good oral health may be eligible to get the All-On-4 Treatment Concept. Good candidates include:
•  People Who Have Numerous Missing Teeth: People who are missing several teeth, though not necessarily the whole arch may be good candidates for dental implants. You may have lost teeth due to gum disease or injury but when getting this implant, it is important that you treat any oral health issues beforehand to guarantee the success of the surgery.
•  People With Healthy Gums: Since gum disease destroys the gums and the supporting structure of teeth resulting in tooth loss, people who want to get All-On-4 Treatment Concept need to exercise good oral hygiene and habits or else they will experience dental implant failure.
•  People with Sufficient Jawbone: All-On-4 Treatment Concept makes the best use of denser bone at the back of the jaw. Hence, in many cases, candidates may not have to undergo a jawbone augmentation. However, if the jaw density is very low, it is possible that you would require bone grafting surgery to strengthen your jawbone.
•  People Who Have Generally Good Health: The placement of dental implants is a surgical process; hence the treatment is moderately-invasive. That is why people need to have a clean bill of health before they undergo this procedure. People with certain conditions like uncontrolled diabetes, blood-related disorders, immunity disorders, or cancer, may not be suitable candidates unless the condition is treated.
•  People Who Do Not Smoke: Cigarette smoke causes fibrous, porous tissues to be formed in the jawbone, instead of healthy and strong bone tissue. This means the implant will not be able to tightly fuse to your bone. When pressure is applied to the implant during chewing, it will shift away from its place, resulting in implant failure. That is why you should quit smoking a few days before and during your implant surgery.
•  People Who Are Committed to Treatment: All-on-4 Treatment Concept is a long-term procedure and involves numerous dental appointments and healing time in between surgeries. Depending on the health of your jaw and mouth, it can take up to a year or even more to get a full set of teeth. That is why people who can commit to such a long procedure are qualified for the dental implant process.

If you are torn between getting dentures, denture bridges, and All-On-4 Treatment Concept, the last one is the best choice since it prevents bone loss over time, strengthens your jaw, and preserves oral health.
