Your Dental Implant Consultation

By the time you leave your consultation with our team, you’ll understand what to expect from the process and the treatment options that are available so you can make the best decisions for your care.

During this visit, our doctors will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and jawbone to get the information he needs to create your treatment plan. He uses advanced technology, including our Sirona 3D® Cone Beam system to create precise, 3D images of your mouth. He will spend time answering your questions and speaking with you about your dental restoration goals.

Together, you and our doctors will decide if dental implants are the right tooth loss solution for you.

Your Customized Treatment Plan

Using the information gathered during the initial consultation, we will design your customized treatment plan to help you achieve the smile of your dreams. You’ll have a chance to review and approve your plan before any work begins.

Supplemental Procedures

Some patients may benefit from a supplemental procedure, such as bone grafting or gum disease treatment, which are designed to prepare the teeth, gums, and jawbone for dental implant placement. We offer a full range of supplemental treatments to ensure your dental implants are as successful as possible.

Dental Implant Placement

Once you’ve had the chance to review and approve your treatment plan and any recommended supplemental treatments have been completed, you’ll be scheduled for your dental implant placement. This part of the process may be completed in one visit or several, depending on your treatment plan.

During your procedure, the doctor will place your dental implant in your jawbone. In some cases, the restoration – single crown, multiple-tooth bridge, or full arch denture – can be placed during the same appointment. Other patients may return to our practice to have their restoration placed once their mouth has fully healed.

For all dental implant treatments, the healing period is very important. It’s during this time that osseointegration takes place, a process in which the jawbone fuses with the implant, forming a strong foundation for your restoration. This process is the key to the success of your dental implants, allowing them to be a beautiful part of your smile for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the implant process take?
From the initial consultation to your final restoration, it typically takes 3-6 months to complete a dental implant procedure.

What is osseointegration?
Osseointegration is the process of your titanium implant fixture fusing with your jawbone to replace the missing tooth root. This is the key to the success of your implant, as it stimulates healthy bone growth in your jaw and allows your implant to function like a natural tooth.

Is getting dental implants a painful procedure?
We use anesthesia for dental implant procedures and patients report little to no pain or discomfort associated with the treatment. However, it’s common to expect some soreness when recovering from dental implant surgery. Your doctor will be happy to provide pain medication for patients who need it.

How do you take care of your dental implants after the procedure?
The first week or two after your surgery is crucial to the success of your treatment. Make sure to follow any post-op instructions from your doctor, such as avoiding hard or crunchy foods and rinsing your mouth with warm salt water after meals. It’s also essential to avoid drinking alcohol or smoking during this part of the treatment.

Once your surgical area has healed, caring for your dental implant becomes much easier. All you need to do is brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day, in addition to visiting our practice for regular dental checkups.

What do I do if there are complications with my dental implants?
Dental implants have a success rate of 98%, so complications are rare. If something goes wrong with your dental implants or you’re experiencing severe discomfort, call our office right away. Don’t attempt to fix the problem yourself, as this can result in permanent damage and set your treatment back. Our team will make sure you get the care you need as soon as possible.
