Dentures - Complete & Partials![]() Complete DenturesThere are two types of complete dentures: conventional and same-day. A conventional complete denture is worn by people who are missing all their teeth. A conventional denture is made after all the teeth have been removed and your gum and bone structure have had some time to heal. This usually takes eight to 12 weeks. A conventional denture has a personalized fit so it is very comfortable and fits easily into your mouth. In contrast, same-day or immediate dentures are made before your teeth have been extracted. We will take the impression of your mouth and teeth prior to removing your teeth and will send the molds to a dental lab. Once the dentures are created, you will visit us again to get your teeth removed. Immediately after extraction, we will place the same-day dentures onto your gum. Same-day dentures are not as well-fitting as conventional dentures and should only be used as a temporary measure. Partial DenturesA partial denture is used when you still have a few teeth remaining in your mouth. These dentures are attached to a metal or plastic framework with clasps that hold the device in your mouth. A partial denture is useful for closing a gap left by missing teeth and prevents the remaining teeth from shifting out of position. What to Expect After Getting Full or Partial DenturesIt may take some time for you to get used to your new dentures:
When to Use Denture AdhesivesDenture adhesive is a type of paste that can help keep your dentures stay in place by sticking your device to the supporting tissue. A small amount of adhesive is applied to the clean base of the denture to ensure stability. However, dentures creams should never be used to force an ill-fitting denture to stay in place. Using an ill-fitting denture can cause damage to the soft tissues of your mouth. If you are interested in getting a complete or partial denture, schedule an appointment with Dr. John P.
